I had it confirmed yesterday that stage 1 of my tx assessment (the 3 hour talk) will take place on Sept 11th. It finally feels like i'm on the road to a new set of puffers and a more active life.
So now i'm going over my tx booklet again and getting all my questions ready for the conversation.
In a strange way, i'm really looking forward to it.

hey Vics
That feeling of almost looking forward to it totally makes sense to me! The uncertainty is one of the most frustrating parts, and knowing action is being taken at last to move you forward definitely helps
Let us know how it goes - if you have any questions (I was full of them throughout the journey ) don't forget to just ask!
Best of luck x _________________ Emily Thackray

I'm due my first appointment soon. Is it really a 3 hour talk?! No-one has told me what happens at the first appointment so I'm curious!
Any info gratefully received... |

I think each transplant centre has a different approach (I have had the experience of two assessments @ two centres). I was going through the process for a possible single or double lunch transplant. Neither of mine invloved a 3 hour chit chat thank goodness. My three day assessments involved bloods, vq scan (to see which of my lungs were stronger), echo, bone density scan, chest ct, chest x rays, chatting with dietician, dentist, psychologist, blood gas, lung function, urine tests, sputum tests, walk test, 24 hour heart tape and a stress echo...phew!!! Then there was a 30min-1 hour 'social interview'. In between all of that I managed to eat and sleep (just!). It was quite full on and emotional, but I knew the objective and so it was fine. For me, the difference between the centres was that one adopted a more holisitic approach and wanted to elicit info from the individual, whereas another was more results driven and decisions were firmly based on the presenting results. Not much else seemed to matter really. Of course, I can't really say which were which but yeh...I was transplanted last year Aug and was assessed between Aug and Nov 2007.
I hope this info helps a bit? |
